Yei Teacher Training College (YTTC) launched the Yei River State in-service teacher training program on the 20th of August 2018 at the YTTC campus. The Guest of Honour was the Deputy Governor of Yei River State. In attendance were the Speaker of Parliament YRS, the Advisor to the Governor on Political affairs, 4 Ministers (Education,
Finance, Health and Gender) 5 members of parliament and a high profile delegation from the state government comprising Directors Generals, the Church and general public. In his address, the Principal YTTC reminded the gathering not to continuously lament on the shortage of teachers but rather collectively make resources available to tap into institutions like YTTC’s capacity. YTTC is able to graduate 1,500 teachers in 6 years both under the in-service and pre-service. He also noted that the launch of the in-service program marked the beginning of the return of the College.
The speakers at the event pledged to support YTTC in their various capacities. The Minister of
Education and the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly for example promised to support
YTTC in securing its land and with infrastructure among others so as to give it the ‘wheels needed to advance teacher training in the country.’
The Deputy Governor noted that while the closure of the college over the last 2 years was a loss to the State, its re-opening was testimony that peace was indeed on its way. Teaching of the class of 60 in-service students officially kicked off the following day.
